Everything you need to know to run with others on RunTogether.
Getting started
What is RunTogether?+
RunTogether helps you find people to run with near you. Join a run that still has spots, or create your own: date, meeting point, distance, pace range, session type and direction.
How do I create an account?+
Sign in with Strava, Apple or Google: your account is created automatically the first time, no password to remember. With Strava, your first name, photo and city are imported, and the app can prefill your runs from your actual paces. Only accounts linked to Strava earn XP: with Apple or Google, you can link Strava at any time from your profile.
Is it free?+
Yes, for runners. Only pro accounts (shops, brands, clubs, coaches) may become paid.
Runs
How are runs sorted?+
Runs from pro accounts (shops, clubs, coaches…) always come first, then the others. By default, each part is sorted by number of runners signed up, you can also sort by distance or date, and filter by pace, session type and radius.
Why a pace range instead of a speed?+
Nobody runs at exactly the same pace: a range (for example 5′30 to 6′00 /km) shows the group’s rhythm and leaves everyone a little margin.
How does a private run work?+
A private run is not listed. Only people with its invite link can see and join it. The organizer can create a new link at any time: the old one then stops working.
What is a “women only” run?+
A run that only women can see and join. Set your gender in your profile to access them.
How do I get a reminder before a run?+
On a run you joined, pick a reminder 5 min, 15 min, 30 min or 1 h before the start. You can also set a default reminder in your profile. Reminders are sent by the mobile app.
The run is full: can I still come?+
Join the waitlist. As soon as a spot frees up, you’re signed up automatically, first come first served, and you get a notification. If the organizer changes the time, place, distance or pace, or cancels the run, all participants are told.
How do I hear about new runs near me?+
Create a search alert in your profile (up to 5): a place, a radius, and optionally a pace, a session type and days. You get a notification for each new public run that matches.
XP, levels and badges
How do I earn XP?+
After a run, confirm it with “I ran!”: you earn 10 XP per kilometre. The organizer and co-organizers earn 2.5 times more, because they keep the community going. A run nobody joined earns no XP: running together is the whole point!
To prevent cheating, each run is checked against your Strava activity: a run starting within 1 h 30 of the start time and 1 km of the meeting point, covering at least half the distance. Sync your watch or phone with Strava before confirming. If you signed in with Apple or Google, link Strava in your profile: without Strava, your runs earn no XP.
What are levels for?+
Each level unlocks perks:
- +2 spots per level on the runs you organize (6 at level 1, up to 50),
- up to level 10, 3 runs created per day (no limit for pro account runs), after that, no limit,
- co-organizers from level 7,
- a frame around your photo: bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, then legend,
- the city ambassador role at level 30.
How do I earn badges?+
Badges reward your history: organizing runs that took place, running with many people, being regular, running early in the morning, doing a half or a full marathon… Your profile shows your progress towards each one.
Community and safety
How do I run safely with strangers?+
- Meet in a busy public place,
- tell someone close about your run and when you’ll be back,
- talk in the run’s chat rather than in private messages at first,
- pick a pace and distance that suit your fitness, and feel free to cut it short,
- report any inappropriate behaviour with the “Report” button.
How do I report a problem?+
On a run’s page, use “Report this run”. Your city’s ambassadors and our team review reports and can hide a run. For a person, use “Report” on their profile or in the participants list: our team can suspend their account.
How do I stop running into someone?+
Block them from their profile or the participants list. Neither of you sees the runs the other organizes or can join them, and their messages are hidden in chats. They are not told. You can unblock them from your profile.
How do reviews and stars work?+
For 30 days after a run, each participant can rate it from 1 to 5 stars, leave a comment, and give stars to the other participants. A person’s average only shows from 3 ratings, so a single review doesn’t define them.
How does the leaderboard work?+
The leaderboard ranks runners by XP earned, in your city or everywhere, for the current month or all time. The monthly leaderboard starts over on the 1st of each month.
How does referral work?+
Share your referral link (in your profile). When someone who signed up with your link, or entered your code within their first 7 days, completes their first group run, you both earn 150 XP.
What are check-in and the attendance rate?+
When they are on, completing a run requires confirming you were there: scan the organizer’s QR code at the start, check in from the meeting point, get ticked by the organizer, or let us find your Strava activity. The attendance rate shows how often someone showed up over the last 12 months, leaving less than 6 hours before the start counts as an absence.
What is an ambassador?+
A very active runner (level 30) who helps moderate the runs in their city. They also get early access to new features and partner events.
How do I follow other runners?+
Tap “Follow” on their profile, or use “People I follow” in the app’s profile: suggestions (members of your Strava clubs, people you’ve already run with) and search. When someone you follow creates or joins a public run, you’re notified. It’s discreet: they don’t know you follow them, and nobody sees your followers. You can turn the notifications off in your profile.
Pro accounts
I’m a shop, club or coach: how do I offer my runs?+
Request a pro account from the Pro area. Once approved by our team, your runs carry the PRO tag, can welcome unlimited runners, and you get a public page with your upcoming runs.
Can I offer a weekly run, or several paces?+
Yes, with a pro account: create a recurring run (every week or every other week, up to 26 sessions), and split it into pace groups, each with its pacer and number of spots. Runners pick their group and can join every session at once.
Account and data
Which Strava data do you use?+
Your profile (first name, last name, photo, city, sex), your list of clubs to suggest runners, and your runs from the last 90 days to estimate your pace and prefill your runs. This data is never shown to other users. When you complete a run, we add “Ran with RunTogether” to the description of the matching Strava activity, you can turn this off in your profile. You can revoke access at any time in Strava’s settings.
How do I change the language?+
The language follows your browser or phone. You can force French or English in your profile.
Can I get notifications on my computer?+
Yes: turn on “Notifications on this browser” in your profile on the website. You can turn them off there or in your browser settings.
How do I delete my account?+
In your profile, tap “Delete my account” and confirm. Your account and data (runs you organize, sign-ups, messages, XP, follows) are erased immediately, and access to your Strava account is revoked.
